Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity available for a Full Time Community Services Registered Nurse. Shifts for this position are 8AM to 4PM Monday - Friday, depending on patient need. The Community Services Registered Nurse will be On Call for the Community Residences they are assigned during the week for guidance to the DSPs. This position will be On Call once and every 4th weekend for all seven (7) Community Residences.

Qualified candidates who are hired will receive a Signing Bonus of $3,000.00. ($1,500.00 payable after completion of six months of continuous employment and the remaining $1,500.00 after completion of one year of continuous employment).

Duties of this position include:

  • Serves as primary nurse for a caseload of community residents as assigned by the CNO or Community Residence Program manager.
  • Provides skilled professional nursing care to community residents.
  • Interacts with other members of the community residence and day program staff to ensure continuity of care and coordination of the care plan.
  • Leadership and positive communication skills in order to facilitate proper
  • interdisciplinary teamwork between nurses, DSP’s and other clinical departments
  • Assists the Group Home manager with orienting new DSP and LPN staff for the group home routines.
  • Documents all aspects of health care in accordance with DDD and community residence requirements.
  • Conducts education with DSP’s and LPN’s on each resident disease issue and treatment.
  • Monitors and coordinates care with Direct Support Professionals.
  • Provides staff training in order to foster consumers' health and development.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with community health professionals including physicians, pharmacists, rehabilitation providers, etc.
  • Reviews all residents' physical and medication records.
  • Reviews and supervises the implementation of medically prescribed diets and exercise programs.
  • Consults with medical staff on medical, health and safety issues.
  • Responds to crises and intervenes as needed.
  • Recommends policies and procedures on health issues and monitors their implementation.
  • Participates in appropriate staff meetings, as required, as well as professional growth opportunities.
  • Respects basic human rights, dignity and confidentiality of persons served as well as property belonging to others.
  • Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives as appropriate.
  • Attends all required staff in-services.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment for all concerned.
  • Effectively communicates with department head, co-workers, persons served, their families, and outside agency personnel as appropriate.
  • Commits time necessary to the job to ensure appropriate staffing and completion of duties and responsibilities.
  • Effectively manages time at work.
  • Complies with Employee Health requirements.
  • Complies with Matheny policies, procedures, standards of performance and Code of Conduct.
  • Assist the Group Home Manager with making nurse staffing coverage. Will do medication in a given group home if staffing is not sufficient.
  • Approved background check required from all appropriate government agencies.
  • New Jersey Department of Education background check clearance or emergent hire approval required, if applicable.
  • Assists co-workers in the event absences create staff shortages or during emergency staffing situations.
  • Does on call coverage for after hours and weekends, on a rotational basis with the other Community services RN’s
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Assures that they do annual competencies as designated by the Matheny Nursing Department.

The minimum salary scale for this position is $77,025 annually.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications/Education:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited college of university required, Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • One year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse by the State of New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License.
